City of Chicago Voting

Register to vote.

The primary election is on March 17th, 2026.

If you haven’t registered yet, the good news is it’s easy! You can register online through March 1st, or paper registration through February 17th. After February 18th, you can also register in-person the day you show up to vote – yes, even on election day!

Ways you can vote.

You have options! From now until March 17th, there’s 3 easy ways you can vote.

Vote by mail.

This safe and easy way of voting is increasingly popular! Apply by 5pm March 12th, 2026 and the Chicago Board of Elections will mail you a ballot. (note: CBoE will start mailing ballots February 5th)

You can fill out your ballot at home on your time, and then return it in the included envelope. Just remember, your ballot must be postmarked or in a secured drop box by March 17th to be counted.

For voters with disabilities, there’s a new vote by mail option for you. You can learn more about your options here.

Vote early in-person.

You can vote starting February 12th through March 17th at the 2 downtown early voting locations: 137 S State and 69 W Washington, 6th Floor. 69 W. Washington will NOT be open as a vote center on Election Day for City of Chicago residents; Suburban Cook County voters see below section for more details.

You can also vote starting March 2nd through March 17th at the 50 ward early voting locations.

Vote in-person on election day.

You can vote in-person on election day, March 17th at your precinct. You can also vote in-person on election day at any of the early-voting sites that are convenient to you.

Suburban Cook County Voting
